The Eighth Annual “Nonprofit Organizations” One-day Seminar, sponsored by Chaminade University, the Chaminade University Educational Foundation (CUEF), and the Hawaii Medical Assurance Association, takes place this year on Friday, September 30, from 7:45 a.m. (registration) to 4:30 p.m., at the Pagoda Hotel, International Ballroom.
The seminar provides useful information on current issues and changing requirements that affect every nonprofit as well as provides insights that will help organizations deal with the unique challenges facing them today. Recent legislative and regulatory changes make this year’s seminar especially relevant. The venue is an excellent opportunity for non-profits to get caught up on the new rules, including new rules on Form 990 and Act 174 relating to charitable trusts and nonprofit organizations. Expert faculty will guide attendees through the tricky maze of tax-exempt compliance and review the categories and governing instruments for tax-exempt organizations. They will also update attendees on new laws which protect a non-profit organization’s status, the audit accounting standard, use of tax-exempt entities, and strategies for maintaining a tax-exempt status.
The lineup of speakers include R. Stevens Gilley of The Clarence T. C. Ching Foundation of Honolulu, Hawaii; Kurt Kawafuchi of Hochman, Salkin, Rettig, Toscher & Perez, P.C. of Beverly Hills, California; Katherine Lloyd of Hawai’i Community Foundation of Honolulu, Hawaii; Charles P. Rettig of Hochman, Salkin, Rettig, Toscher & Perez, P.C. of Beverly Hills, California; Carleton L. Williams of CW Associates, CPAs of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Jodi Kimura Yi, Deputy Attorney General of Honolulu, Hawaii.
