Father George Cerniglia (rector), Joan Riggs (director, Environmental + Interior Design), Kathleen “Kitty” Wo (chair, Chaminade Board of Regents), Ronald “Buzz” Wo (Kitty’s husband), and Brother Bernard Ploeger (Chaminade University president) celebrate Mr. & Mrs. Wo’s endowed gift to Chaminade University’s Environmental + Interior Design program. Chaminade is the only university in Hawaii to offer a bachelor’s degree in Environmental + Interior Design (BFA).
HONOLULU – December 27, 2011 – Chaminade celebrated the first endowment gift to its Environmental + Interior Design program today with the announcement of a $150,000 donation from the Chair of Chaminade’s Board of Regents, Kathleen “Kitty” (Sullivan) Wo and her husband, Ronald C. “Buzz” Wo. The gift is being used to endow one of the newly renovated environmental + interior design laboratories. Today, a plaque commemorating that gift was unveiled at Eiben Hall. Family, friends, university faculty and staff, as well as professionals from the design community attended the celebration.
“We are very happy to have established an endowment for the Environmental + Interior Design program here at Chaminade University,” Kitty Wo stated during the ceremony. She recalled the importance of the furnishings business in her husband’s family and noted for herself that, “…as a former student of architecture and sometimes practitioner, I have always known and appreciated how good design enhances our lives.”
Chaminade University’s President, Bro. Bernard J. Ploeger, SM, PhD, said, “This endowment is important for several reasons; it will enable us to keep these newly renovated classrooms and state of the art equipment in top shape. New laboratories have a catalytic effect on our faculty, course offerings and our ability to provide students with experiential learning which we believe will allow them to reach new levels of skill and creativity. This gift signals strong confidence in our program, something particularly welcome now during our accreditation effort.”
