Chaminade University officials announced today that the university has selected Danny O’ Regan as its new Campus Ministry director.  He replaces Kay Stone, who retires at the end of the semester.

“We warmly welcome Danny to our ‘ohana!” said Fr. George Cerniglia, S.M., the university’s rector. “As a higher educational institution and a Marianist university, Chaminade is committed to the development of the whole person, which includes the dimension of religious faith and its personal appropriation and practice, along with education in the disciplines. Danny has worked with college young people in California and Hawaii and has a love for Christ that fits well with this transformative, spiritual mission of our campus life.”

Of Irish heritage, O’ Regan was born and raised in England, where he completed his undergraduate degree in urban planning.  He earned his masters degree in multicultural theology from the Franciscan School of Theology in Berkeley, California. For five years, he served as a youth minister in a parish in Daly City, California.  From there he took a position as a full-time campus minister at the University of San Diego in California, where he served for three years.  For the last three years, O’ Regan has been a counselor at the Newman Center of the University of Hawaii.

O’ Regan has a special penchant for the poor and the homeless and publishes a homeless newspaper for more than 20,000 homeless individuals on Oahu.  He also plays soccer for a local team, plays the guitar, writes his own music, and leads a choir. In addition, he enjoys creative writing and is compiling wisdom quotes for a new book on wisdom for college students.
