Chaminade University will hold its 2012 Fall Commencement Ceremony on Monday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m., in the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena. Nearly 250 students, more than usual for fall graduation, will receive their degrees at the free public event. Olelo will broadcast the commencement ceremony live on Channel 55. It will also be streamed live on the internet at www.olelo.org  (Click on the button that says Channel 55 on Olelo’s home page to view.)  For more information, go to: http://www.chaminade.edu/graduation/

Highlights include student salutatory speaker Justin Alai Tuiasosopo, receiving his B.S. degree in accounting with honors, and the Most Reverend Clarence “Larry” Silva, bishop for the Diocese of Honolulu, who will give the invocation.

Of very special note, Chaminade University will confer an honorary doctorate degree (Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa) on the Most Reverend Amando Samo ’73, bishop of the Diocese of the Caroline Islands, the ecclesiastical territory of the Roman Catholic Church in the Federated States of Micronesia and in the Republic of Palau. Chaminade is privileged to acknowledge the bishop’s role in founding the Caroline College and Pastoral Institute (CCPI), located in Chuuk, one of four states of the Federated States of Micronesia. Bishop Samo is also an alumnus of Chaminade.

CCPI is an outreach college of Chaminade University that was opened on September 6, 2010, thanks to Bishop Samo’s vision and support from his diocese, Chuukese parishes in Hawaii, Guam, and the mainland, as well as Chaminade University. This December, Chaminade will also confer degrees on its first 14 CCPI graduates, with even more graduates expected in the spring. Three of the CCPI graduates will be attending graduation ceremonies in Honolulu, while most will be viewing it via a live internet downstream provided by Olelo.

Baccalaureate Service followed by the Academic Honors Ceremony will be held the day before commencement, on December 16 in Mystical Rose Oratory, at Chaminade University. Family members and friends of graduates are cordially invited to attend. Baccalaureate starts at 2 p.m., and the Academic Honors Ceremony starts at 3:45 p.m.
