HONOLULU—December 4, 2014—Chaminade University will award an honorary doctoral degree (Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa) on December 15, at its 2014 Fall Commencement Ceremony to H. Mitchell D’Olier, who has led a remarkable professional career as the President and Chief Executive officer of Victoria Ward, Limited and most recently as the Chairman of Kaneohe Ranch Company, Limited and the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation. His service has led to numerous honors including the NASBA Center for Public Trust Being A Difference Award for inspiring public trusts and for his contributions and leadership in Hawaii.
D’Olier serves as the Hawaii Regional Chair for Teach for America, which has provided excellent education for students in low-income communities for over 20 years and now serves more than three million children nationwide. He is a member of the State Public Charter School Commission. D’Olier served as the Chair and Education Task Force Co-Chair of Hawaii Business Roundtable, with a commitment to a better Hawaii future through public education and improvement of its economy. D’Olier is also a founder and director of Malama Maunalua, a Hawaii non-profit which seeks a sustainable Maunalua Bay.
Under the direction of D’Olier, the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation supported the building of what is now the Chaminade University’s Wesselkamper Science Center which houses the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division, as well as the renovation and expansion of the laboratories and facilities for the Natural Sciences and Mathematics. This support created multi-purpose laboratory facilities for the University’s student body.
The commencement starts at 7 p.m., at Neal Blaisdell Arena, 777 Ward Avenue, Honolulu, Hawaii 96814. Family and friends are welcome to attend this event in recognition of all graduating students. The event is FREE.
