Chaminade University President

Honolulu, Hawaii (May 1, 2015)– Chaminade University’s Board of Regents voted at its April 24 meeting to approve an extension of the appointment of Bro. Bernard Ploeger, SM, PhD as Chaminade’s president through June 30, 2017.  At the meeting, Bro. Ploeger also announced that he did not intend to seek an extension beyond that given time.

In explaining the reason for announcing now that he would not seek a further extension of his tenure, Bro. Ploeger said, “The time required to recruit an outstanding president and make a smooth transition has lengthened in recent years.  I believe it is important for the Board and all involved to have the advance notice required to exercise care that will result in a successful selection process.”

Bro. Ploeger also noted, “I am so pleased with what we have been able to accomplish thus far.  The extension will afford me the privilege of serving for over eight years as president of this wonderful institution. In the next two years, we have some tremendously ambitious projects to complete and I’m committed to making these last two the best years of my presidency.”

The Chair of Chaminade’s Board of Regents, Vaughn A. Vasconcellos, noted that, “From joining Chaminade at the time Dr. Sue Wesselkamper became president in 1995, Bro. Bernie has worked tirelessly to put the university on sound financial footing, raise the quality of our educational offerings, and renew and expand our facilities.  His quiet style of leadership allowed the university to achieve sound progress across the board, and has led to an overall transformation of our campus.”  He said that the Board will begin planning for the transition as the new academic year begins.

Bro. Ploeger was appointed as president in March 2009 after serving the University in various leadership capacities for the prior fifteen years.
