Donors, Mr. Vaughn G.A. Vasconcellos (sixth from left), Capt. David G. Wilson and Mrs. Carolyn A. Berry Wilson (center with lei and check), present a $300,000 check to Chaminade University leadership, coaches and student athletes.

Chaminade University is celebrating $500,000 in new major gifts, $300,000 of which were recently bestowed by longtime supporters of the University including two members of its Board of Regents. The individual donors are: Board of Regent, Mrs. Carolyn A. Berry Wilson and her husband, Capt. David G. Wilson, and Chaminade’s new Board of Regents’ Chair, Mr. Vaughn G.A. Vasconcellos. The other $200,000 were awarded from private foundations.

The purpose of the gifts are to support the development of Chaminade’s new Intercollegiate Athletics Facilities, specifically for the construction of a new Coaches’ Office Complex. In recognition of the donors’ contributions, the Women’s Volleyball Coach’s Office will be named the Vaughn G.A. Vasconcellos Women’s Volleyball Coach’s Office, and the Men’s Basketball Coach’s Office will be named the Carolyn A. Berry Wilson and David G. Wilson Men’s Basketball Coach’s Office. Aside from the Coaches Office Complex, the overall project will also include fully equipped locker rooms and training amenities which will all be located on the lower portion of campus. Construction for the Coaches’ Office Complex begins this summer and is slated for completion in December.

“These much-needed facilities and coaches’ offices are long overdue,” said Chaminade President Bro. Bernard J. Ploeger, S.M., Ph.D. “Not only will they benefit our student athletes and coaches, they will help us build a richer campus life for all of our students, faculty and staff who will use these facilities and offices for many years to come.”

“It has been incredible to witness our athletics program grow considerably over the years thanks to the ongoing support of donors like Carolyn, Dave and Vaughn,” said William Villa, Athletics Director. “These new offices and facilities will serve as a ‘home away from home’ for our student athletes, coaches and greater campus community as we continue to grow our Silverswords’ athletics tradition.”

Celebrating 60 years of educating students for life, service and successful careers, Chaminade University offers a four-year graduation guarantee with programs of study grounded in the liberal arts including day, evening, online and accelerated courses.
