Prison Monologues
Prison Monologues
The visit from the prisoners of the Women’s Community Correctional Center was an invigorating presentation. The women shared their experiences before and during prison through what they call “The Prison Monologues.” Pat Clough, an advisor to the women, monitors the women’s writings and publishes them in a book every so often. This gives the women a chance to express themselves through writings, and it gives outsiders a better point of view of their experiences.
The women were escorted by the warden of WCCC, Mark Kawika Patterson and an officer. This presentation gave the criminal justice students and forensic science students a chance to converse and ask questions with the women. The presentation was specific to the CJ and FS majors, but it was open to all students who wanted to attend. I was intrigued by the amount of stories that the women were willing to share with the students in order for them to learn.
