    Spring Semester Here I Come!

I FINALLY registered for next semester and even though I didn’t get all the classes I wanted, everything worked out in the end!

I think I’m most excited to learn some Korean! hahaha! Take a look at my schedule for next semester….

I am sooo happy I was able to register for classes on only Tuesday and Thursday (except for Korean, but we only meet once a week) because now I can work more hours. Yay me!

Although I am excited to start next semester I’ve still got to get through finals for this semester!

    Crunch Time

With less than one month left of school it really is CRUNCH TIME. I’ve got soooo many papers to do, extra credits to attempt, and finals to study for!

Just look at my “TO DO” folder on my laptop.

Thankfully most of these papers don’t have to be very long; but I do have three that have to be at least ten pages! AHH! To top it all off, I still have to finish my community service project hours and work my two jobs. I don’t think I’d ever say this…but can Winter Break wait just a little bit longer please?

    HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween because I sure did!(:

Because Halloween ended up on a Monday this year I celebrated with my family and have more fun than I thought I would. We did the usual trick-or-treating around the neighborhood and ate dinner together.

Here’s a picture of my Goddaughter or should I say my Bumblebee!

    Isn’t she a cutie?!

There were a lot of students that dressed up for the occasion as well. I saw everything from a Rubber Ducky to Lady Gaga roaming around campus yesterday!

Now that Halloween is out of the way, I am going to BLAZE through Thanksgiving and START ON CHRISTMAS!(:

    Its Finally Here!

Okay guys I finally got the video to work and upload!!!! I do apologize for the wait, and I’m not too sure if I can say that its been worth while just because I’m new to iMovie and went about making the video in the most basic and simple way haha. This video is comprised of my favorite people in some of my favorite places that have made some of my favorite moments. Anyway, I hope you enjoy and come to love these islands just as much as I do.

    Ready, Set, STUDY!

    Photo on 2011-04-27 at 11.42

With finals week just around the corner, the Library has become my new home. I thought I’d take a break a snap a photo of my friends and I in one of the many library study rooms. The rooms range in size depending on the number of students in your study group and all come equipped with a desktop computer, flat screen tv, and white board. You can rent one for free for about three hours. It is definitely the best way to study, especially if your the type that can’t study in silence or alone.

Can you see The Stylistics playing off of youtube on the tv? (:

THREE steps forward, and ONE step back.

OH MY GOSH. These past few months have been so hectic for me. Juggling two jobs, schoolwork, and my family WHILE attempting to have a social life has proven to be quite a challenge this semester. Thats mainly why I haven’t been able to post anything in a while. :( Regardless, I thought now would be the perfect time to recap the crazy sophomore year I’ve had.

This year was really a time of growth for me. I’ve strengthened important relationships and weeded out the poisonous ones. I’ve finally been able to come to terms with the fact that there are many life changing decisions ahead and the time to act on them will come sooner than I could ever imagine. I’m learning how to have balance in my life and appreciate those who are sticking by me…even with all the whining I do. hahaha. The way I see it, things can only get better right?

    16237_1152608701490_1415845630_30355115_5554261_n
(Now I know this photo has nothing to do with my post, but for me its a nice reminder that life goes on and everyday is another chance to change.)

At school, I’m starting to explore my options. My mind has been rummaging through all the possible future jobs and fields of interest to pursue. For example, now that Junior year is months away I need to find some internship opportunities. To add to my stress, my area of interest (within psychology) seems to change everyday! I guess it will come with time.

Home and work has been the same. Time consuming. haha. Just kidding. I know my family will always be there for me and working means I can eat, so who am I to complain?

As for having a social life, I’ve tried to participate in as many school events as my schedule would allow. Regretfully, I have been unsuccessful. This year a friend of mine organized a new student club on campus called Marianist College LIFE. I agreed to be a part of the club and help out with their many community service projects and social events; however, I never had the time to :( . They are also sponsoring Chaminade’s last Mass of the school year on May 1st so hopefully I’ll be able to show my support then. I really do hope that I will be able to be a more active member next school year. Its quite nice to be a part of something so selfless and generous. Especially when all its members are young college students. haha.

I’ve been trying to compile a “highlights reel” of sorts of this past school year and I promise to upload as soon as its finished. Now, here’s my disclaimer….I’m no pro at video production or anything. I’m just a lazy college student with iMOVIE. haha so don’t get too excited :)

I can’t wait to watch the highlights reel! I just went to the Marianas Club’s mass on Palm Sunday. That was my first Palm Sunday experience and it was great. I’ll definitely be there for the Marianist Life’s mass as well. Great post!

    ひなまつり!

    Hinamatsuri!

Hinamatsuri is the Japanese Doll Festival also known as Girl’s Day(: It’s actually on March 3rd, but I didn’t have time to post yesterday :(

    290673868ZcOAem_fs

Anyway……Girl’s Day is a seasonal Japanese event where families celebrate with young daughters to ensure their future happiness. In my family we do celebrate Girl’s Day in somewhat of a traditional fashion. My Stepdad is full Japanese and both of my grandparents on his side are still alive so they make certain that the customs are passed down to the next generation. Families observing this day usually display ceremonial dolls that represent the Emperor and his court. These dolls are usually passed down through the generations and dolls are added with the birth of girls and are generally only displayed during the time of the festival, then carefully packed away until the next year. The doll set that is displayed for my family is actually my great-grandmother’s and is displayed at my grandmother’s house. The picture above is just a picture I found online of the average set of Kokeshi Dolls (I forgot to snap one of my grandma’s set). Many of these sets can grow to well over 15 dolls.Additionally, it is customary to give gifts to the girls as well as eat mochi.

This year my mom and dad “killed two birds with one stone” by getting me mochi as my girl’s day gift. hahaha.(:

    Kung Hei Fat Choy!

    Photobucket

    Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

Last week marked the start of the Year of the Rabbit in the 12 year Chinese New Year cycle. Because of Hawaii’s diversity, many traditions of the cultures brought over by immigrants have been passed down through the generations and are still in practice today.

Chinese New Year is celebrated with Lion Dances (shown in the picture). Giving the Lion money is said to bring you good fortune in the New Year, therefore, many local businesses hang little red envelopes with their donation above the doorway to welcome the Lion. Another popular custom is eating Gau. Gau is a chinese steamed pudding of sorts, similar to mochi, thats usually wrapped in red paper to symbolize good luck!(:

    Now in Hawai’i we do celebrate the Western Calendar New Year also, and I figured this post would be perfect to catch up on this event(;

    Photobucket

New Years in Hawai’i, (I would assume) is much like New Years all around the world. Parties, good food, good company, counting down the clock until midnight. Right? Well, it is all those things…and more…..FIREWORKS. People go crazy here popping fireworks. Its intense, relaxing, exciting, and difficult all at once. It really is a sight to see, but it the air does get really smokyyyy.

I hope everyone experiences some good fortune this year(:
